MidCentury Matcha Mama
Avila Beach
The BEST beach and cute little town on the Central coast. We discovered it on a day trying to go to Pismo and found it overcrowded and each parking lot full of school buses! (This was off season on a Saturday even.) We drove 10 minutes north, and found the cutest little place to chill under the pier, go in the water, enjoy dinner, drinks, and live music. It feels like a Disneyland town ON THE BEACH! I couldn't believe how adorable it was and how uncrowded it was. It became our destination for beach days and anniversary getaways.
We checked in to the Inn at Avila Beach promptly at the 2:00 check in time into our Classic Spa retreat room. The price was fair even on a peak Friday for the spa tube and shower in the room. Situated right across from the beach and a two-minute walk to everything, we were right in the middle of the action!
After check-in, we enjoyed some drinks on the nearly empty rooftop of the hotel. Lots of chairs, tables, and firepits, this was the perfect beach view hangout!
Their rooftop is also their coffee shop in the morning where they serve breakfast consisting of made-to-order espresso drinks and fresh baked croissants!

They also offer fresh made pie at 8pm. The property never not smells like fresh buttery baked goods.
The Inn at Avila Beach has bikes to check out for free! (Also beach gear like umbrellas and boogie boards.) After a quick dip in the ocean, we chose a couple of beach cruisers to go explore.the town.

The bike path around Avila beach is really mellow! We did it with our masks on no problem. The path loops at the park where we decided to sit on a bench and enjoy the afternoon sun.
We returned our bikes and walked back into town. We bought some essential snacks and beverages plus a souvenir for our son at Avila market downstairs. We headed back up for a quick bite for dinner, street tacos and garlic fries. Pork belly was my favorite, fish tacos were the hub's.

All their indoor tables had been moved outside due to state law during this time. We didn't mind the fresh air and sunset views!
Next, after dusk we headed down the "strip" for some after dinner dessert and brews: decadent citrus-ginger creme brulee, a double cafe latte for me and a Smith's Chocolate Stout for him.

The indigo lighting and beach backdrop served as the absolute perfect Summer evening. No live music during COVID-19, but the natural music of the ambience was plenty to enjoy and sip alongside.
We ended the evening with a stroll through the shops and plaza, down the sand along the water, and finally to the dark and empty park to view the comet Neowise in its peak!
These are just some pics from our family trips to Avila, in November (top two) and February (bottom).

We always grab a quick bite for dinner after enjoying some beach play (Hello, California burritos!)

To my surprise the weather is perfect here year-round! Fall and Winter included, the evenings are 73 degrees and balmy. If you find yourself on the Central Coast, Avila is a must see!
